What a ride it's been! This is the title Brian Basset has given to his cartoon, that on NASA's request, he drew for the 30th anniversary of the Shuttle, and the last year of service of the first re-usable spacecraft.
While waiting for mission STS-135 of Atlantis, due to begin on 28th June, that will mark the end of the Shuttle program, this cartoon shows the two characters of Basset's famous cartoon strip "Red and Rover", a boy with red hair and his faithful dog, running with a model Shuttle alongside the real thing as it lands after a mission.
The author is a well-known American cartoonist with a passion for space exploration, such that many of his cartoons have been on display since 2004 at NASA's headquarters in Washington. Of these, one from 2005 celebrates the return to service of the Shuttle Discovery, with mission STS-114, after the Columbia disaster. In 2003 and 2010 Basset was a candidate for the Best Comic Strip of the National Cartoonists Society. Among his best known strips are "Adam at Home" and "Red and Rover", that have appeared in over 160 newspapers all over the world, and are
syndicated by Universal Uclick.
