MARCH-APRIL2026 The origin of the longest gamma-rayburst ever observed byNOIRLab,JonathanCarney,JosieFenske amma-ray bursts (GRBs) are among the most powerful ex- plosionsintheUniverse,sec- ond only to the Big Bang. The majority of these bursts are ob- servedtoflashandfadewithina few seconds to minutes. But on 2 July 2025, astronomers were alerted toaGRBsourcethatwasexhibiting repeating bursts and would end up lasting over seven hours. This event, dubbedGRB250702B,isthelongest gamma-raybursthumanshaveever witnessed. GRB 250702B was first identifiedbyNASA’sFermiGamma- ray Space Telescope (Fermi). Shortly after space-based telescopes de- tectedtheinitial burstsin gamma- ﻣﺠﻠﺔ FreeAstronomy ﺎﻟﻌﺮ ﺔ 40 أﺻﻞ أ ﻃﻮل اﻧﻔﺠﺎر ﻷ ﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣﺎ رﺻﺪ ﻋﻠﻰاﻻﻃﻼق : ﻘﻠﻢ ﺟﻮﻧﺎﺛﺎن ﺎرﻲوﺟﻮزيﻓ ﻨﺴﻜﻲ - ﻣﺨﺘ ﻧﻮﻳﺮﻻب ﺗﻌـﺪ اﻧﻔﺠﺎرات أﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣﺎ ﻣﻦ ﺑـ أﻗـﻮى اﻻﻧﻔﺠﺎرات ﰲ اﻟﻜﻮن وﻻ ﻳﺴﺒﻘﻬﺎ ﰲ اﻟﻘـﻮة إﻻ اﻻﻧﻔﺠﺎر اﻟﻌﻈﻴﻢ ﻳﻼﺣ . ﻆ أن ﻣﻌﻈﻢ ﻫﺬه اﻻﻧﻔﺠﺎرات ﺗﻮﻣﺾ وﺗﺘﻼﳽﰲ ﻏﻀﻮن ﺛﻮانٍ إﱃ دﻗﺎﺋﻖ وﻟﻜﻦ ﰲ 2 ﻳﻮﻟﻴﻮ 2025 ﺗﻢ ﺗﻨﺒﻴـﻪ ﻋﻠﻤﺎء اﻟﻔﻠﻚ إﱃ ﻣﺼﺪر ﻻﻧﻔﺠﺎر أﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣﺎ ﻋﻠﻤﺎء اﻟﻔ ﻠﻚ إﱃ ﻣﺼﺪر ﻻﻧﻔﺠﺎر أﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣﺎ ﻳ ﻈﻬـﺮ اﻧﻔﺠــﺎ رات ﻣﺘﻜـﺮرة وﺳﻴﺴـﺘﻤ ﺮ ﰲ اﻟﻨﻬﺎﻳﺔ ﻷﻛﺜﺮ ﻣﻦ ﺳﺒﻊ ﺳﺎﻋﺎت وﻗﺪ اﻃﻠـﻖ ﻋﲆ ﻫﺬا اﻟﺤﺪث اﺳﻢ GRB 250702B ﻫﻮ و أﻃﻮل اﻧﻔﺠﺎر ﻷﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣﺎ ﺷﻬﺪه اﻟﺒﴩ ﻋﲆ اﻹﻃﻼق . ﺗـﻢ ﺗﺤﺪﻳـﺪ GRB 250702B ﻷول اﻹﻃﻼق . ﺗـﻢ ﺗﺤﺪﻳـﺪ GRB 250702B ﻷول ﻣﺮة ﺑﻮاﺳﻄﺔ ﺗﻠﺴﻜﻮب ﻓ ﻣـﻲ اﻟﻔﻀـﺎﺋﻲ ﻷﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣﺎ اﻟﺘﺎﺑﻊ ﻟﻨﺎﺳﺎ . ﺑﻌﺪ ﻓﱰة وﺟﻴـﺰة ﻣ ــﻦ رﺻــﺪ اﻟﺘﻠﺴـــﻜﻮﺑﺎت اﻟﻔﻀــﺎﺋﻴﺔ ﻟﻼﻧﻔﺠﺎرات اﻷوﻟﻴﺔ ﰲ أﺷﻌﺔ ﻏﺎﻣـﺎ وﺗﺤﺪﻳـﺪ ﻣﻮﻗ ﻌﻬﺎ ﰲ اﻟﺴﻤﺎء ﰲ اﻷﺷﻌﺔ اﻟﺴﻴﻨﻴﺔ، أﻃﻠﻖ - ﻣﺎﺭﺱ ﺃﺑﺮﻳﻞ 2 0 2 6
