This phenomenon had beenspottedinstarsbutneverin aplanetofanykind.Free-floating planetsaredifficulttodetect,as theyareveryfaint,butESO’sup- coming Extremely Large Telescope (ELT),operatingundertheworld's darkestskiesforastronomy,could change that. Its powerful instru- ments and giant main mirror will enable astronomers to uncover and study more of these lonely planets, helping them to better understand how star-like they are. [ESO/Digitized Sky Survey 2] ﻣﺠﻠﺔ FreeAstronomy ﺎﻟﻌﺮ ﺔ ﺣﻘﻮﻻً ﻣﻐﻨﺎ ﻃﻴﺴﻴﺔ ﻗﻮﻳﺔ ﻗﺎدرة ﻋﲆ دﻋـﻢ ﻣﺜﻞ أﺣﺪاث اﻟﱰاﻛﻢ إذ ﺟﺮى رﺻﺪ ﺑﺨﺎر ا ﺎء ﺧﻼﻟﻬﺎ ﺑﻴﻨﻤﺎ ﻟﻢ ﻳﻜﻦ ﻣﻮﺟﻮداً ﻗﺒﻠﻬﺎ وﻳﻤﻜﻦ أن ﺗﻮﺛﺮ ﻫﺬه اﻟﻈﻮاﻫﺮ ﻋﲆ ﺗﻜﻮﻳﻦ اﻟﻐـﻼف اﻟﺠﻮي ا ﺴﺘﻘﺒﲇ وﺗﻄﻮر اﻟﻜﻮﻛﺐ وﻛﻴﻤﻴﺎء اﻟﺪاﺧﻠﻴﺔ ﻟﻪ . ﻟﻘﺪ ﺗﻢ رﺻﺪ ﻫﺬه اﻟﻈﺎ ﻫﺮة ﰲ اﻟﻨﺠـﻮم ﻣـﻦ ﻗﺒﻞ ﻟﻜﻨﻬﺎ ﻟﻢ ﺗ ﺮﺻﺪ أﺑـﺪاً ﰲ أ ي ﻧـﻮع ﻣـﻦ اﻟﻜﻮاﻛﺐ . ﺗﻌﺪ اﻟﻜﻮاﻛـﺐ اﻟﻄﺎﻓﻴـﺔ ﺑ ﺔﻳـﺤﺮ ﺻ ﻌﺒﺔ اﻻﻛﺘﺸﺎف ﻷﻧﻬﺎ ﺧﺎﻓﺘـﺔ ﺟـﺪاً ﻟﻜـﻦ اﻟﺘﻠﺴﻜﻮب اﻟﻜﺒـ ﺟـﺪاً اﻟﺘـﺎﺑﻊ ﻟﻠﻤﺮﺻـﺪ اﻷوروﺑﻲ اﻟﺠﻨﻮﺑﻲ واﻟـﺬي ﺳـﻴﻌﻤﻞ ﺗﺤـﺖ أﻇﻠﻢ ﺳﻤﺎء ﰲ اﻟﻌﺎﻟﻢ ﻟﻠﺮﺻـﺪ اﻟﻔﻠﻜـﻲ ﻗـﺪ ﻳﻐ ذﻟﻚ . ﺳﺘﺘﻴﺢ أدواﺗـﻪ اﻟﻘﻮﻳـﺔ وﻣﺮآﺗـﻪ اﻟﺮﺋﻴﺴﻴﺔ اﻟﻌﻤﻼﻗﺔ ﻟﻌﻠﻤﺎء اﻟﻔﻠﻚ اﻛﺘﺸـﺎف ودراﺳﺔ ا ﺰﻳﺪ ﻣﻦ ﻫﺬه اﻟﻜﻮاﻛﺐ اﻟﺸـﺎردة ﻣﻤﺎ ﻳﺴ ﺎﻋﺪﻫﻢ ﻋﲆ ﻓﻬﻢ ﻣﺪى ﺗﺸﺎﺑﻬﻬﺎ ﻣﻊ اﻟﻨﺠﻮم . ﺳﺘﺴـﺎﻋﺪ ﻫـﺬه اﻟﺪراﺳـﺎت ﻋـﲆ ﻛﺸﻒ أﴎار ﺗﻜﻮن اﻟﻜﻮاﻛﺐ اﻟﺒﻌﻴﺪة وﻓﻬﻢ اﻟﺨﺼــﺎﺋﺺ ا ﻐﻨﺎﻃﻴﺴــﻴﺔ واﻟﺘﻜ ــﻮﻳﻦ اﻟﻜﻴﻤﻴﺎﺋﻲ واﻟﺘﻄﻮر ا ﺒﻜﺮ واﻟﺤﺮﻛﺔ ا ﺪارﻳﺔ واﻟﺘﻔﺎﻋﻼت ﻣﻊ اﻟﻐﺎز واﻟﻐﺒﺎر ا ﺤﻴﻂ ﺑﻬـﺎ إﺿﺎﻓﺔ إﱃ اﻛﺘﺸـﺎف ا ﺰﻳـﺪ ﻣـﻦ اﻟﻜﻮاﻛـﺐ ا ﺎرﻗﺔ ﺗﻨﺎ ﰲ ﻣﺠﺮ درب اﻟﺘﺒﺎﻧﺔ . وﻛﻤﺎ ﺗﻘﻮل ا ﺴﺎﻫﻤﺔ ﰲ اﻟﺪراﺳـﺔ وﻋﺎ ـﺔ اﻟﻔﻠﻚ ﰲ ا ﺮﺻﺪ اﻷوروﺑﻲ اﻟﺠﻨـﻮﺑﻲ أﻣﻴﻠﻴـﺎ »: ﺑﺎﻳﻮ ﻓﻜﺮة أن ﺟﺴﻤﺎً ﻛﻮﻛﺒﻴـﺎً ﻳﻤﻜـﻦ أن ﻳﺘﴫف ﻣﺜﻞ ﻧﺠـﻢ ﻫـﻲ ﻓﻜـﺮة ﻣﺪﻫﺸـﺔ وﺗﺪﻋﻮﻧﺎ ﻟﻠﺘﺴﺎؤل ﻋﻦ ﻃﺒﻴﻌﺔ اﻟﻌﻮاﻟﻢ ﺧﺎرج ﻋﺎ ﻨﺎ ﺧﻼل ﻣﺮاﺣﻠﻬﺎ اﻟﻮﻟﻴﺪة «.
